Good Gorge and Good Night

Hi and welcome to Tread the Red Podcast! A podcast ALL about the Red River Gorge and surrounding region. We just want to share trail information/experiences and talk about the local community that makes the Gorge truly magical!

I (Rachel) am currently typing this with little to no sleep because SOMEONE (Pippin) kept us up pretty much all night because he is scared of thunderstorms….but don’t worry, we recorded this podcast before missing out on sleep, so while it is still the typical *chaotic*, at least we’re not zombies. 😉

In this episode Darren and I cover:

*Tarr Ridge West Trail – This trail is about 0.75 miles out to the overlook (~1.5 miles round trip)! The trail traverses the opposite ridge line to the Tarr Ridge East/Extravaganza trails and leads out to an overlook where you can see the kayak/canoe rental place on 715, the Red River down below, and Ravens Rock to your right! It is also a great spot for sunset. While this trail is pretty short and doesn’t really have much as far as hills go, there are a couple of rock scrambles at the very end before the overlook. We talk about these on the episode, but even the bigger one isn’t that bad. The rock is kinda in staircase ledges and there is a solid nice tree there to give you a hand too. We totally recommend checking this one out if you haven’t already! It is also known as “Fortress Wall” to climbers (shout out to @rbfulop on Instagram for telling us)!

Thanks for listening and stay tuned for an October “spooky season” episode featuring a paranormal investigation in Beattyville!!! We are so excited.
